An investigation into how humans preserve, transmit, and transform musical knowledge, “Unwritten Lines” explores the score as an object of memory and improvisation. The body becomes a living archive, revealing that written and oral traditions are not opposites but two forms of the same human impulse – in this case, the desire to remember through sound.
The project intertwines new compositions written for the trio with free improvisation. New Lithuanian compositions enter into an international dialogue with other new works from Europe and moments of free improvisation.
The purpose of the project is to rediscover the oral tradition of music while highlighting the European tradition of musical notation. The collaboration between composers and performers becomes essential, as it shapes the performance in real time. Composition and improvisation may seem to drift apart, yet they are deeply interdependent. Bringing them together gives the performance a different sense of time – the time of narration and the time of perception.
“Unwritten Lines” connects with the festival’s “Sonic Anthropology” theme by proposing a musical intersection between interpretation, improvisation, and composition. There is time to listen, time to play, time to narrate, and time to perceive – all of them fundamental human anthropological practices.

Bodily Functions and Malfunctions
(2026, Lithuania premiere)
The body as a state, an instrument, a resonator, and a source of musical material. “Bodily Functions and Malfunctions” is an aural score conceived as a kind of sonic meditation, in which the performers react in real time to instructions they hear through headphones. Each performer or group of performers receives different instructions inviting them to focus on and evoke various bodily sensations - tension, relaxation, lightness, warmth, and others. In this way, the performers’ attention shifts away from the visual representation of music and becomes fully focused on sonic and bodily experience. The work explores not only the parameters of sound but also those of emotional tension and their composition: what happens when a performer consciously investigates the sensations of their own body? How is this quasi-ritualistic atmosphere transmitted to the listener? What does music arising from the body that carries us every day sound like? The work will receive its Lithuanian premiere at the festival.

Anton Schukaŭ
(Baltarusija)
erzinantys pasikartojimai: hommage a patterns
(premiere)
“erzinantys pasikartojimai: hommage a patterns” is a work for two alto saxophones and a kind of joke, sarcasm, and post-ironic reflection on the recurring techniques and strategies of new music. For Schukaŭ, the piece was an experiment and an attempt to take a new step in the development of his compositional style through post-irony. At the same time, the work grows out of the composer's long-standing interest in patterns and their organic development - a continuous line without abrupt transitions. This led him to adopt a pattern-based form, an approach further encouraged by Morton Feldman's collection of essays “Give My Regards to Eighth Street”. As the composer emphasises, there is nothing hostile towards new music in the piece. Instead, he identifies devices that recur from piece to piece and from composer to composer and turns them into a post-ironic study. The work will receive its premiere at the festival.
Luca Zordan
Refound Sketches
“Refound Sketches” is a 2025 work for trio by Italian composer Luca Zordan and will receive its Lithuanian premiere at the festival. Particularly interested in twentieth-century repertoire, Zordan's compositional research focuses on the integration of elements of primitivism, rhythmic complexity, and intricate contrapuntal writing.
Performers
Airkeychains Trio is a contemporary music and free improvisation trio founded in 2023. The trio is formed by Gregory Horoneko on soprano and alto saxophones, Francesca Fantini on alto and tenor saxophones, and Danielius Daubaras on euphonium.
Their music intertwines the practice of free improvisation with the languages of contemporary music, offering a unique sonic journey through soundscapes, extended techniques, twelve-tone melodies, and unexpected counterpoints.
The international trio has performed at various venues across the Netherlands, Lithuania, Germany, and Italy. In 2025 and 2026, they were invited to share their knowledge and experience at the Conservatory of Brescia, where they held workshops, masterclasses, and lectures on free improvisation in contemporary settings.
