ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

Acid Rain is a cloud-shaped object constructed from aluminium structures, inspired by the anti-architecture ideas of German architect Konrad Wachsmann.

Inside the cloud, loudspeakers transmit sounds resembling articulated speech. In fact, these sounds are generated by the legendary Roland TB-303 synthesizer, closely associated with the development of the acid techno aesthetic.

Acid Rain brings together an architectural vision, fragments of music history, and contemporary sound art practice. The installation becomes not only a visual but also an acoustic landmark, opening up the possibility of experiencing sound as an autonomous cultural medium.

The project connects with the broader context of sound art in Lithuania. Although the field is still relatively young in Lithuania and often closely associated with experimental music and media art, works such as Acid Rain demonstrate how sound art can be integrated into visual art, architecture, and public spaces. The installation not only enriches the festival programme but also expands our understanding of artistic forms, their boundaries, and their possibilities.

ABOUT SAX DRONE

Artiom Zalizko’s Sax Drone is the first saxophone drone music project in Lithuanian history. It brings together numerous saxophonists who listen to one another and interact with the unique acoustics of the Serpentine Space to create a continuous, constantly evolving field of sound — a dense and powerful mass of timbres and colourful sonorities that immerses listeners in a 360-degree spherical meditation on sustained tones.

Here, each sound becomes part of a larger collective organism, while the architecture itself becomes an active instrument of the performance.
